Eighteen months is the season of the small precise hand. The shelf rewards gestures of repetition: posting coins, threading rings, transferring beans from one bowl to another. Out goes the object-permanence box; in come the first real puzzles.
- A Grimm’s small rainbow — six arches, endless arrangements
- A wooden coin-posting box
- A three- or four-piece chunky puzzle (knobs)
- A pouring tray — two small ceramic cups, a small jug of dry rice
- One realistic small-world figure (Schleich farm animal)
- A scribble basket — beeswax block crayons and folded paper
- One language book, face-out
